Anwar pays final respects to late brother Idrus Ibrahim

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the family home in Cherok Tokun at about 11 am today to pay his final respects to his brother, Idrus Ibrahim.
Anwar went to the residence in Jalan Kilang Ubi, where his brother’s remains were being kept, following his return from a working visit to China.
Among those present were Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, DAP assemblyman Lee Khai Loon and UMNO chief Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir.
Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, arrived shortly after Anwar to pay their respects.
Idrus, 83, died at his home at about 5.30 pm yesterday. His daughter, Aida Rafizah Idrus, said he had shown no unusual signs before falling asleep and that the family had not expected his death.

Idrus was a veteran educator and former headmaster who was affectionately known as Cikgu Idrus.
He was also Sim’s teacher and later headmaster, while Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican was among his former pupils. Reezal said Idrus had been his teacher and described his death as deeply saddening.
Idrus was the second of eight siblings and leaves behind his wife, four children and 10 grandchildren.
Anwar had earlier expressed his grief over his brother’s death in a Facebook post written while he was on his way back from China, saying Idrus was someone who had shared many memories with him throughout his life.
Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held after Friday prayers at the temporary prayer hall of Masjid Cherok Tokun Bawah, before Idrus is buried at the Cherok Tokun Bawah Muslim Cemetery beside the mosque.
