A dog’s unwavering wait for its owner after an alleged abandonment has touched netizens, while residents work to find the canine a new home.
A LOYAL dog’s apparent wait for its owner to return home after allegedly being abandoned has moved netizens online.
“It is waiting for its owner to come home. Reminds me of Hachiko’s story in Japan,” a local man said in a Facebook post.
The location of the dog is undisclosed.
According to the post, the mild-mannered dog’s owner had moved away, but the canine has since refused to leave its former home.
Even though several residents brought the devoted dog downstairs, it would always make its way back to its old home, determined to wait for its owner at the front door.
“Why do you treat your pet like this? Just because you’re moving, don’t leave it behind. If you cannot take care of it anymore, give it away to someone who wants to care for it,” the post added.
Eventually, with the help of a neighbourhood uncle, the dog was brought down from the former home and is currently being kept in a cage while waiting to be adopted.
The post also confirmed that several people have expressed interest in adopting the canine.
The dog’s story touched many people online, who not only admired its loyalty but also expressed sympathy for its current situation.
Some also called for the owner to be reported to the authorities over the alleged abandonment.
“Before getting a pet, please remember that it is a lifetime commitment,” one user reminded others.
