A woman’s account of handing her entire salary to her husband has sparked debate, with netizens urging her to maintain control over her own finances.
WHILE sharing financial responsibilities with a spouse can be part of managing a household, questions about financial independence can arise when one partner has complete control over the other’s income.
One woman’s predicament recently triggered outrage among netizens after she alleged that she had been handing over all of her hard-earned money to her husband.
According to a Threads post, her husband said she had to transfer her entire salary, after deductions, to him so that he could manage their finances “properly”.
The woman also claimed that she was given a weekly allowance for work and, if she wanted to purchase something, he would transfer the required amount to her.
“When I think about it, the money he gives me actually comes from him, but it was earned through my work.
“Whenever I argue with him about this, he says I’m a wife who worships money,” she lamented in her post.
Netizens criticised the woman for what they viewed as an unwise financial decision and urged her to stand up for herself.
“There is a difference between loyalty and stupidity,” one user said.
“Please don’t be so daft. Transfer your balance to your own separate bank account and just give him five sen. Say this is what’s left after all your commitments. You don’t owe him an explanation about what you do with your own money. He doesn’t even have the right to your five sen,” another commented.
“You got scammed, and him saying you worship money was on purpose. That is how he manipulated you into handing your salary to him,” another commenter pointed out.
