Higher Education Minister confirms university action against student in Quran insult case, as police investigation proceeds.
BACHOK: The Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student suspected of insulting and stepping on the Al-Quran will face disciplinary action.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir (pic) said the university is proceeding under its own regulations.
“This case is now a police matter, so we await the police investigation,” he said at an event here.
He confirmed the ministry will not compromise on the student’s alleged actions.
Zambry stated that UMPSA had acted swiftly by lodging a police report.
He urged all parties in higher learning institutions to foster mutual respect.
Insulting any religion, he said, especially the Islamic holy book, triggers extreme public anger.
Such acts against other religions should also not be taken lightly.
“Cases involving the 3Rs (religion, royalty, and race) cannot be allowed to drag on,” he stressed.
Joint efforts with wisdom are needed to preserve national peace and stability.
