The Malaysian government will accord Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali a state funeral, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
PETALING JAYA: The Government will accord Tun Dr Hasmah Mohd Ali a state funeral befitting a national dignitary following her death at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he had directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and Chief of Defence Forces to assist with the funeral arrangements and accord Hasmah the appropriate state funeral honours.
In a statement today, Anwar conveyed his condolences to Hasmah’s husband, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and their family over the loss.
He said the nation would continue to remember Hasmah as a motherly figure and honour her contributions to the country.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family as they face this loss,” he said.
Anwar also prayed for Allah to forgive Hasmah’s shortcomings, accept her good deeds and place her among the believers.
