A man and his family avoided a potentially unsafe situation after stopping to check on a fallen motorcyclist while travelling in Kampar.
A MAN’S strong instincts recently helped him and his family avoid a potentially unsafe situation after they stopped to check on a fallen motorcyclist.
“Lesson learned. I will not stop for random people anymore. I know it sounds selfish, but I’m sorry. This was traumatic enough,” he said in a Reddit post.
The incident took place in the Kampar area. According to the attached dashcam footage, the man was travelling with his mother and sister back to his university at around 3.30am.
As the trio was making their way to their destination, they noticed a motorcycle lying at the side of the road. The man initially planned to ignore it but was encouraged to check whether the rider had fallen into a nearby drain.
As the man made a U-turn to approach the fallen motorcycle, another motorcyclist pulled up in front of them. The man asked him to check whether there was anyone in the area, to which the motorcyclist allegedly responded with a “smile”, as shown in the dashcam footage.
At this point, both the man and his mother became concerned, with his mother cautioning him against getting out of the vehicle.
The man noticed that the rider appeared to be “unhurt” after sitting up and decided to leave the situation, telling the other motorcyclist to settle the matter.
He also noticed that the supposedly affected rider appeared relatively unharmed, pointing out that there were no visible signs of injury. He also noted that the rider’s clothes appeared dry despite allegedly being in the drain, and that he was not wearing a helmet.
“When we checked the dashcam footage, there were so many red flags that we missed, like the motorcycle did not seem damaged and where the other motorcyclist came from.
“Also, the way the fallen rider and the other motorcyclist kept looking at us, wanting us to get down from the car,” the man added.
Netizens praised the man for listening to his instincts and leaving what he believed was a potentially unsafe situation, noting that others might not have been as fortunate.
“Situational awareness is so important, good call,” one user said.
“It’s crazy how people manipulate good people. This has made me more aware, as if I were in this situation, I would have gotten out and tried to help,” another remarked.
Several users also advised others to contact the police if they encountered a similar situation.
