Tomei independent non-executive director Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad said 2% of sales would be contributed to the Tomei CARE Fund from the campaign’s launch until its conclusion.
TOMEI GROUP, in collaboration with WWF-Malaysia, has launched the Malaysian Flora Collectible Gold Coins Set to raise awareness of Malaysia’s rich botanical heritage and support rainforest conservation efforts.
The launch also marks the start of the Tomei CARE Fund Support Campaign 2026, under which 2% of the retail price of every set sold will be channelled to the Tomei CARE Fund.
The accumulated contribution will be handed over to WWF-Malaysia to support its environmental conservation initiatives after the campaign ends in June 2027, or earlier if all 800 sets are sold.
The collection features four Malaysian flora species — hibiscus, slipper orchid, pitcher plant and Rafflesia — representing the country’s diverse tropical rainforest ecosystem.
The slipper orchid featured in the collection is Paphiopedilum rothschildianum, also known as the Gold of Kinabalu, which is found exclusively in Kinabalu Park, Sabah.
The collection also features Nepenthes rajah, one of the world’s largest carnivorous plants, which is endemic to Kinabalu Park, while Rafflesia is recognised as the world’s largest flower and can be found in both Peninsular and East Malaysia.
Each complete set comprises four 999.9 fine gold coins, with each coin weighing 0.1 ounce, or 3.11g, for a total of 12.44g of gold.
Limited to 800 individually numbered sets nationwide, the collection is priced at RM8,888 per set, although the retail price may fluctuate in line with international gold prices.
Tomei independent non-executive director Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad said 2% of sales would be contributed to the Tomei CARE Fund from the campaign’s launch until its conclusion.
“We are committed to raising a minimum of RM70,000 through this campaign and are confident that the total contribution will exceed RM100,000,” she said.
Madinah said sustainability considerations had also been incorporated into the product’s development.
The coins were produced using recycled gold sourced from traded-in gold, while the packaging and printed materials prioritise environmentally friendly materials, including paper certified under Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody standards where practicable.
She said Tomei’s gold trade-in programme also encouraged jewellery recycling and more sustainable consumption by reducing the environmental impact associated with new gold extraction.
The collaboration is Tomei’s second conservation-themed partnership with WWF-Malaysia, following a limited-edition gold coin collection launched in conjunction with the organisation’s 50th anniversary in 2022.
While the earlier collection focused on endangered wildlife, the latest initiative highlights the importance of conserving Malaysia’s flora and tropical rainforests.
Tomei Group managing director Datuk Ng Yih Pyng said the company hoped to develop a long-term strategic partnership with WWF-Malaysia.
“Following our meaningful partnership in 2022, we have been keen to establish a long-term strategic relationship with WWF-Malaysia.
“We look forward to exploring more opportunities to work together in advancing conservation efforts, promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact for future generations,” he said.
WWF-Malaysia senior director of partnerships Tay Mooi Geok said Malaysia’s rainforests were home to extraordinary plant species and protecting them was crucial to biodiversity, communities and future generations.
“The partnership with Tomei demonstrates the important role corporations can play in conservation, in supporting nature protection and in creating lasting impact,” she said.
A symbolic tree-nurturing ceremony was also held during the launch on Aug 21, with representatives from Tomei and WWF-Malaysia watering seeds to represent the nurturing and preservation of rainforests.
The Malaysian Flora Collectible Gold Coins Set is available at Tomei outlets nationwide. An exclusive sales event will also be held from Aug 22 to 23 at Tomei’s headquarters on Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur.
