Police arrest suspect after supermarket knife chase in Melaka

A 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly chasing a woman with a knife at a Melaka supermarket, with police confirming the suspect tested positive for drugs
MELAKA: Police arrested a 50-year-old man after he allegedly chased a young woman with a knife at a supermarket here.
Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the incident occurred around 9.30 pm when the 21-year-old victim was with her younger sister at the supermarket car park.
The woman became suspicious and frightened, and immediately ran into the supermarket after the man allegedly chased her.
She claimed that she did not know the suspect, who was also said to have scolded and shouted at her and her sister without any provocation.
A knife was seized at the scene and CCTV footage from the car park and supermarket entrance was obtained to track the suspect.
The suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, was remanded for four days to assist investigations.
He is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
